ZENITH

Zenith, or the highest point, is a Public Sports and Leisure Center along the North Little Rock Riverfront. It is intended to be a place for the surrounding communty to gather and share. The project began and was heavily based around the idea of permeability, whether that be between the site and the community, or the community and the riverfront, the project is all about building connections within its context. Zenith is meant to serve as a haven of sorts for anyone that may utilze its sports facilities, take advantage of its child care service, or even just pass through its riverside bike trail. The biggest challenge taken on by this project is the flood zone that it lies within, and negotiating a space that feels safe in such a vulnerable area. Zenith accompishes this by rising above the 100 year flood line, that has wreaked havoc on the downtown of Argenta in the past. By lifting the building above the flood plane, it also allows for a smooth transition into existing flood infrastructure, making use of something that could be seen as hostile to create a space where all can feel comfortable.
