DOMEOSTASIS

(BUILDNER COMPETITION SHORTLIST)

In the midst of an urban crisis, where the median wage earners find themselves on the precipice of a housing apocalypse, Domeostasis positions itself as an answer. It embodies a transformative architectural endeavor that unites sustainable design principles with cost-effective construction. Rising within the industrial fabric, the community cultivates a unique dialogue between industry and residence. A modular system and affordable materials empower homeowners to construct their community without typical required expertise.

The framework, composed of Glue-Laminated members, utilizes contemporary technologies to promote sustainability and progress. Domeostasis leverages AI-controlled utilities, solar panels, and renewable materials to help combat ecological decay. Along with public amenities strategically populating spaces, this community sets a new standard for innovative, sustainable, and affordable living.

The Land Trust model, a cornerstone to the project, builds equity and safeguards financials of the individuals and families involved. Domeostasis is more than a solution; it’s a professionally grounded and economically viable vision, redefining sustainable living within industrial landscapes.

This project was shortlisted by Buildner for the “Los Angeles Affordable Housing Competition” linked here.

A.I. Disclaimer; This project was completed in Fall 2023, when artificial intellegence was first making its way to students of architecture, my partner and I were encouraged to explore these newly available tools, which we did. We used midjourney for the rendering of this project as we were instructed to. This experience of A.I. use only further solidified my position against its use in creative fields, and to this day I do not use A.I. in my creative process, whatsoever.
